The Man Who Shook The Earth

"Bueno!" he ejaculated. "And we will have a great celebration when the hospital is dedicated, with you as the guest of honor. All of Chile will want to see the man who has smashed the maker of earthquakes."
"Cut out the celebration part," Doc told him. "Don't depend on me being there."

The giant bronze man had no way of knowing it, but his advance decision to stay away from the ceremonies dedicating the hospital was destined to affect his future greatly.
It was at that ceremony that the mysterious horror which men called the Blue Meteor was first to seek for Doc Savage.
A terror, spawned from the remote fastnesses of forbidden Tibet, was the Blue Meteor. The fearsome thing first came to the earth from outer space, passing over villages and cities, leaving behind it the weird affliction which was unlike anything ever encountered by mankind.
The "living death," men called the horrible fate to which the Blue Meteor condemned those unfortunates who chanced to come under its spell.
Controlling the destinies of the Blue Meteor was a fiend, the equal of whom for villainy, Doc and his five aids had never before encountered. None had seen this master of evil; none knew his identity. He was literally nothing but a name -- Mo-Gwei.
Doc and his group had met peril in many guises, but never had danger come in the form which they were slated to meet in "Meteor Menace."
