course -- money which Doc would turn over to hospitals and charity, as was
his custom.
But that one word--reward--might have been considered portentous. A
peek into the near future:
ONE MILLION DOLLARS REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO
THE LOCATING OF DOC SAVAGE!
This startling offer was soon to appear in the New York newspapers!
It was to become a seven-day wonder. The more so when it was found to be
genuine! Newspaper editors were to tear their hair and reporters be driven
to distraction, seeking to secure the fantastic, horrible story behind the
million-dollar tender!
And out of that "One Million Reward!" was to come peril and
tragedy--and a deluge of action which would plunge Doc Savage and his men
into darkest Africa.
But Doc, master of many things though he may be, could not read the
future. He strode over to where Monk was standing.
Monk was peering down into the roaring flood in
Red Skull canyon. He greeted Doc with a look of lamblike innocence...
